Establish a delivery plan and oversight to ensure timely delivery of recommendations

The Nuclear Regulatory Implementation Panel held its inaugural meeting on 30 June 2026, chaired by Lord Vallance (Minister of State for Science, Innovation, Research and Nuclear). ONR Chief Executive and Chief Nuclear Inspector Mike Finnerty attended as a core member, alongside senior figures from government, regulators, industry, and the original Taskforce. The meeting met the June 2026 target set in the government's March 2026 response, confirming the NRIP is now operational.

The Nuclear Regulatory Implementation Panel (NRIP) has been established as an expert council chaired by DESNZ, with senior figures from government, regulators, industry, and the original Taskforce. It will meet at least twice yearly, with the first meeting scheduled for June 2026. NRIP reports to the PM's office, the Secretary of State for ESNZ, and the Defence Secretary. This directly implements the Taskforce's recommendation for a high-level oversight body, and the inclusion of Taskforce members provides continuity and accountability for the reform programme.

At the Nuclear Industry Association annual conference, Ed Miliband reiterated the Government's acceptance of the recommendations and confirmed that the Government will produce its implementation plan within 3 months.
